This museum endeavors to understand and preserve the valuable contribution made by African- American in New England right from the colonial period to the 19th century. The museum enlightens us on the gallant contribution made by Afro –Americans in the struggle for liberty, justice and freedom.

The museum showcases the moving story of black families who educated their children and produced great creative art. These families stood by America when she fought for her independence.

It showcases a collection of wide range of books, posters, reprinted speeches and a variety of gifts. The museum offers interactive exhibits, programs and learning materials relative to art, culture, community and communication.

Visiting this enriched museum is like going back into history and meeting great and renowned people like Frederick Douglass who recruited the Black Civil War soldiers: African American artists Meta Warrick Fuller and Edmonia Lewis. Their sculptures bear a startling likeness to their original counter parts.

Hours: Mon to Sat 10AM to 4PM,
Closed: December 25, and
January 1.
