Codman Square Health Center

The Codman Square Health Center has been designed to take care of the community's physical, mental and social welfare.

In the 1970s a group of volunteers in the neighborhood of Codman Square decide to undertake the task of improving the neighborhood. Their efforts culminated in the birth of Codman Square.

Initially it operated from the basement of the Codman Square library. From its humble beginning it had registered startling growth to include social, mental, dental, educational youth and community service.

Today, more than 250 employees, most of whom reside in the neighborhoods surrounding Codman Square, record over 120,000 client contacts annually.

The center goes to the root of the problem of ill health by striving to improve physical environment and social network of the community.

In a bold move the Codman Square Health Center has formally merged public health programs with the Dorchester House Multi- Service Center.
