Started 30 years ago, First Night has become a part of Boston's cultural heritage. It unites Bostonians from all walks of life by showcasing their culture.

First Night, Inc. is a private, non- profit organization that produces the landmark New Year's Eve celebration and conducts the First Night Neighborhood Network, a community outreach and arts education program that directly communicates with hundreds of children and families in Boston's neighborhoods each year.

It hosts over 250 exhibitions which showcases the talent of both budding and established artist and attracts more than 1.5 million people. Museums, theaters, churches and performance centers open their doors to First Night Button holders throughout the entire day.

Some of the primary attractions which draw crowds are Family Festival at the Hynes Convention Center featuring interactive activities for all ages, mammoth ice sculptures on Copley Square and the Boston Common, a spectacular fireworks display, and a Mardi Gras- style Grand Procession that rolls through the streets of Boston.

It takes place at a variety of venues. Over the years it has become a symbol of the cultural traditions of the city. It marks the triumph of the human spirit and the joy of being alive.
