Salem wax museum recaptures vividly one of the most poignant tragedies that the town of Salem witnessed—the Salem witch trial of 1692. Its London made compelling and lively wax figures captivates us.
The museum traces the history of Salem from its birth in 1626, through the frenzied hysteria of the 1692, when the so called witches were burnt. It depicts the figure of one of the most celebrated personalities —Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author of “The Scarlett Letter” and “The House of the Seven Gables”. You can also feel the pirates of New England, the merciless Witch Trials judge – Colonel John Hawthorne, and Tituba the accused "witch" who helped fuel the hysteria of 1692.
Tucked away behind the museum is the second oldest burial ground in the country. You can visit the Old Burial Point. The Salem wax museum is handicapped accessible.
The Salem Wax Museum boasts of the largest museum gift shop in the area! You can buy any gift from ships in bottles to ships for mantles, maritime gifts and New England confectionaries as well as books, curios and a variety of T- shirts. The museum accepts all major credit cards and traveler's checks in U.S. funds. No personal checks are accepted. Still photography and videotaping in the Salem Wax Museum is permitted. The Salem Wax Museum is open all year round, except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
