Peabody Essex Museum

The history of this museum is as old as America itself. It was founded way back in 1799, just 16 years after America was born.
The founders of the museum were America's first entrepreneurs who traveled all over the world in search of trade. In the course of their travel they amassed a mammoth collection of artifacts and pieces of art which are showcased in the museum.
Though art and culture from New England lures you, expect art from around the world as well. Asian art - Korean, Japanese and Indian together with African, Oceanic, and Native American art is showcased amidst historic houses and gardens.
It is now considered one of the best museums in the United States. It is a unique museum which brings a rich variety of art architecture and culture together presented in an artistic mode. The house itself is of immense historical value.
The shop at PEM has a beautiful collection of apparel and accessories, books, home decors, jewelry, music and videos, prints and toys. Many of the museum's collections are considered to be among the finest in the nation, yet several have never been publicly displayed.
