MFA Boston is a treasure house for art lovers and boast of the second largest art collection in the entire country.
A visit to the museum is like a journey into the world of art. It is like stepping back in time, where you can see the creative outpourings of geniuses of the past along with contemporary art. The museum showcases some of the masterpieces of great artists like Dali, Renoir, Monet and Van Gogh.
The museum also plays a major role in conserving pieces of art by providing them with a proper environment so that the luster of these priceless pieces is not dimmed by the passage of time.
With a collection of 450,000 objects, the MFA owns some of the most rare and important artistic treasures in the world. It brings you some of the finest works of art from the East like Japanese prints and metalwork; Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese ceramics; the arts of the Islamic world; and a rapidly growing selection of Oceanic and African art.
The department of contemporary art showcases modern art since 1955. The MFA's collections of European decorative arts and sculpture are among the largest and most significant in the United States. Through subsequent donations and selective purchases the collection has grown to over 1,100 musical instruments. The combined library holdings total more than 320,000 items and reflect the strength of the Museum's collections.
